Microsoft Windows Server 2003

Nel 2003, Microsoft rilasciò un nuovo sistema operativo server: Windows Server 2003. Il sistema includeva molte delle caratteristiche di Windows XP con migliorie dal lato dei componenti server come il Volume Shadow Copy RestoreIIS 6802.1x e gli strumenti di amministrazione. Come per Windows XP, anche questo sistema operativo aveva il supporto nativo alle Bitmap integrato nell’interfaccia grafica.

Windows Server 2003 fu reso disponibile in sei edizioni:

  1. Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
  2. Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
  3. Windows Server 2003 Web Edition
  4. Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition
  5. Windows Server 2003 Small Business Edition
  6. Windows Storage Server 2003

Tempo dopo venne annunciata anche Windows Server 2003 HPC (High Performance Computing), una versione specifica per l’uso di sistemi di calcolo su larga scala.

Sebbene questa versione includesse un vasto archivio di driver, vi erano diversi problemi di stabilità  con alcune periferiche hardware. Inoltre, la pochezza di applicazioni a 64 bit non favorଠmolto la sua diffusione sul mercato.
